About
Hey, I’m Benjamin R. Shepherd, and I run Benworks Creations.
I was born in Kenton, Ohio in 1987, and I’ve been making things ever since I could figure out how to type. I started programming when I was seven using BASIC—just simple commands like PRINT and CLS—but to me, it was magic. I was animating stories with code before I even really understood what code was.
I’ve always been into games, especially point-and-click adventures like Monkey Island and King’s Quest. Those pushed me to learn Visual Basic so I could start building my own. I was also messing around with 3D modeling in TrueSpace and LightWave 3D, and designing levels for Duke Nukem 3D and Blood using the old BUILD engine. Then came my obsession with modding Half-Life—custom maps, scripts, all of it.
I eventually found Adventure Game Studio, picked up C#, and released my first game in 2018: Penga & Obcster’s Christmish Adventure. That one was based on a comic I made when I was a kid, heavily inspired by the old stop-motion Christmas specials.
Since then, I’ve jumped deep into Unity, building full-scale games from the ground up—combat systems, AI, cinematic cutscenes, you name it. I’ve also worked in Unreal Engine, mostly for music videos and animated shorts.
Outside of games, I’ve done a lot with music too. I’ve written, produced, and edited music videos as side projects, just because I love doing it. Writing has always been a passion of mine—whether it’s lyrics, stories, or full scripts. I used to draw comics constantly growing up, and I still carry that same creative energy into everything I make today.
Everything I know, I taught myself—through books, tutorials, trial and error, and a whole lot of patience. It’s taken years, but I’ve reached a point where I genuinely feel like there’s no creative task I can’t take on. Whether it’s art, music, code, or story—I love it all, and I build it all.
Benworks Creations is my little corner of the world where I bring all of it together. Thanks for checking it out.
